Wow. All carved by hand, artist Gehard Demetz’ sculptures have a strange poignancy to them. Any statue has the inherent quality of freezing a moment in time. His wood carvings however, assembled from multiple pieces of wood, evoke a certain sense that these represent very singular moments in time. The Janga like missing sections suggest that while the memories might be distant and not totally whole, the experience is still very real.
